  1. Facebook has gone ahead and done it. The company begun hiding the number of likes that posts have received, starting today in Australia.

You will see “John Doe and others” instead of “John Doe and 15 others” under your post. App researcher Jane Manchun Wong uncovered this test from a beta version of the social network’s app, earlier this month.

  2. Customers always have suggestions on how you can improve your website. It’s just a matter of giving the opportunity to express those thoughts. With a suggestion box, you give them that chance, gaining insight into bugs, as well as how to improve content, services, your product and more.

  4. The editors at WardsAuto have published their list of 10 new vehicles delivering the best “user experience” — a combination of driver assistance, smart phone connectivity, voice recognition and controls — and that list includes vehicles from Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Hyundai, Mercedes, Lexus, Range Rover, Subaru and Volkswagen.

“We’re seeing new approaches to questions that have plagued the auto industry for years,” WardsAuto managing editor Tom Murphy said. Wards evaluated 23 vehicles — all either new, or with substantially new systems.

Automakers from the U.S., Germany, Japan and Korea and vehicles priced from $40,705 to $101,095 made the list. Wards’s editors evaluate the vehicles in multidriver road tests.

German brands' strong performance is particularly noteworthy. For years, Audi, BMW and Mercedes relied on cumbersome rotary controllers. Those controls remain in some vehicles, but German brands have added user-friendly touch screens and voice recognition.

  5. With the global mobile penetration going up to 67 percent this year, businesses cannot afford to ignore the growing importance of mobile apps. People are spending an increasing amount of time on their smartphones. No wonder, mobile apps are a popular medium for businesses to connect with their audience.

Yet, customers have little patience for apps with poor UX. In fact, according to Google, 29 percent of smartphone users will switch to another app if they aren’t happy with the UX. Also, 70 percent of these switches are due to extended load times. Hence, it’s critical to pay attention to good UX design practices to be able to offer the best UX to your users right from the time they access the app.

The launch screen is the first page that opens when a user taps the app icon. It plays a critical role in creating a first impression for both new and existing customers. It is critical that this is designed well as it might either encourage them or discourage them to stay with you as the app loads. The launch screen reduces the sense of extended load time, making the process of waiting less tedious and more enjoyable.

Launch screens also help strengthen your brand image, giving you an edge over the competition. They boost UX which is a vital factor for improving the app’s user retention rate.

When creating a suitable launch screen for your business you can use either a skeleton or a logo launch screen. Read on to learn about these launch screens and how you can use them to boost your app’s UX.

  7. Bitcoin proponents claim it to be the best form of money, however even after a decade since its inception, the use of Bitcoin is quite limited. One of the main reasons for the rate of slow adoption is the complexity that comes along with it. The growth of any product, service or technology is propelled by how easy it is to use for the general public.

Apart from buying and selling of Bitcoin, most other aspects of the Bitcoin ecosystem, be it setting up a node, managing private keys, how the core protocol works or how its incentivization model works are not easy to comprehend.

Dan Held, Director Of Business Development at Kraken appeared on “What Bitcoin Did” podcast to discuss the importance of simplifying the user experience (UX) in the Bitcoin ecosystem, and how it can be a key to propelling Bitcoin use for masses.

  9. People don’t automatically trust machines, so as personalisation and automation step up a notch marketers need to ensure they do everything they can to create transparent and user-friendly experiences.

If you search the internet for ‘content and AI’, you’ll mostly find people talking and writing about how algorithms are trespassing on the territory of creatives. Algorithms for short and structured copywriting, algorithms as tastemakers, algorithms producing movies and so on.

But what’s more interesting than all the future-gazing is the question of how marketers are setting the context for AI?

  10. Cybersecurity professionals are caught between a rock and a hard place, as they are tasked with keeping systems and users secure while not hindering the business in any way. As organizations and consumers do more business online and in the cloud, user experience is becoming a top priority. As the founder and CTO of a compromised credential detection company, I've found that security efforts are often hindered in favor of a positive user experience. In the security world, the "tree-falls-in-the-forest" question is this:

If a user doesn’t turn on a security feature, does it really matter how much more secure it is?
