  1. Apple employees are so trained to consider the end user that they prioritize any project that will affect the user’s experience. This user-centric tech giant proves with every new product release that its customers can’t wait to buy again and again.

    Other companies would do well to prioritize the user experience as Apple does. Many try, so long as they get budget approval. Unfortunately, most companies don’t understand the right way to measure the effectiveness of their UX design -- not to mention how to improve it.

  2. You have one programmer on your team who is backed up with work. Maybe estimation was a bit off, maybe an emergency popped up, maybe she needed a sick day. Perhaps the programmer has a specialty whose work is required on a number of projects that have all suddenly become priorities. All of this will likely lead to a bottleneck.

    In an effort to fix the bottleneck, would you require this programmer to train other people on the team to do her job? If so, who should do her job? Should we teach the product owner how to do some coding? Should we have the QA person put their work on hold to do the coding even though that might throw off the QA's timing, which would create a different bottleneck?

  3. The checkout page is one of the most important pages on any retailer’s eCommerce site. It’s the final hoop visitors have to go through in order to make a purchase. You can make this an easy or difficult process depending on your user experience. For instance, if your checkout process is time-consuming because your forms are too long, this can create enough friction that can push visitors away.

    On the other hand, if your checkout process is seamless and fast, this can increase the chances of closing the sale and at the same time motivate the customer to come back for a repeated purchase. Think about Amazon’s checkout process. It’s so fast that it encourages consumers to keep coming back to the platform to order more products. If their user experience was not up to par, they would get less repeat orders, even while offering better prices than other websites. Remember that time is money, so anything that you can do to speed up your checkout process will be greatly appreciated by your customers.

  6. Death is an inevitable thing for every human being. We all die someday as everything fades away into the dust with time. The UX design was a hot topic 4 years ago when I was working as a frontend engineer for a reputed company at that time. I was really interested to know this wonderful subject. As the time pass by I wanted to become a UX designer because I fell in love with the subject called User Experience. After nearly 4 successful years as a UX designer, I had one single question. “Are we doing the right thing?” After becoming a big fan of the Medium I build a habit of reading every article which was written about User Experience. It made me very happy because I felt like I am not alone in this world. Many writers talk about User Experience design but most of the things I have seen has been already found by someone else. User Experience has stopped evolving to its full potential. We swim in a swimming pool with water pored many years back. Now you might be wondering “What the hell are you talking about?” Before User Experience designers there were interaction designers who worked on creating better interactions and “responsive websites”. We always adopt new things as designers while some titles fade away.

  7. We have all experienced products with either a fantastic or a poor user experience. The latter feel unintuitive and hard to use. You can’t find what you’re looking for, and you’re not clear what to do next. You may navigate to a dead end or receive a cryptic error message. It may be hard to read the text, or the design may not be aesthetically pleasing. All of those problems are symptoms of bad UX design.

  10. But my UX design practice is perfect! Thankfully, we don’t hear that very much but the truth is – the longer we’re in a job, the better we consider ourselves to be at that job. Sometimes, it’s worth remembering that even the best professionals still have learning to be done. It’s also worth remembering that the longer we do things, the easier it is to have sloppy habits creep into our work.

    That’s why the experience driver is not necessarily a great driver; they may think they are – but there’s no shortage of crashes caused by people who have been driving for years. Their skills have slowly deteriorated because they’ve spent no real time on improving or maintaining them.
