  1. Bad user experience (UX) is like pulling on a door that says push. We’ve all had that head banging moment of frustration when we start shouting at inanimate objects. So, what is the right balance of design and usability that makes for a great user experience?

Digital UX is not an element to be skipped over if you want to be a thriving business in the age of digital disruptions. Designs that are too complex make users feel overwhelmed. Customers often decide whether they like a website or not in a matter of seconds.

  3. Most design and product teams have some type of persona document. Theoretically, personas help us better understand our users and meet their needs. The idea is that codifying what we’ve learned about distinct groups of users helps us make better design decisions. Referring to these documents ourselves and sharing them with non-design team members and external stakeholders should ultimately lead to a user experience more closely aligned with what real users actually need.

  4. Many organizations are taking steps towards becoming compliant with the upcoming EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) before the May 2018 compliance date. But only a few are considering user experience (UX) aspects of GDPR compliance, which is of paramount importance in order to gain a competitive edge. A sound UX strategy tied with GDPR compliance will enable organizations to use personal data privacy as a differentiator in the market to attract new customers and retain existing ones. It is necessary to consider privacy as a key ingredient of your UX at the initial stages itself.

This webinar will cover best practices when applying GDPR into your product experience and user journey with the examples such as:

    - User onboarding
    - Privacy by design
    - Managing user consent
    - Adopting your software and user interfaces to ensure GDPR compliance

  7. This post takes a look at how the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector, and specifically digital interfaces, can be harmful to the environment. We’ll then offer some insight into how UX designers can curb their carbon footprint through sustainable interface design and green UX.

  8. We can find the terms ‘user experiences’ and ‘UX’ all over the Internet. Just a decade ago this subject wasn’t widely known within our industry and now it seems to be the starting point for anyone interested in design or development. With all this talk, you’d think we’d be able to easily answer the question, “What is a user experience?” Turns out, it’s a pretty complicated question.

You may have seen attempts that try to explain UX, each more complicated than the last. For instance, this picture has been floating around the Internet for years and people generally agree (incorrectly) that it demonstrates a user experience pretty well.

  9. Don’t Make Me Think is the title of a book by the HCI and Usability engineer Steve Krug. It teaches UX designers how to deliver great user experiences in a very simple and accessible way. Since its release in the year 2000 it has become one of the defining texts in the industry and an invaluable guide to UX professionals around the world.

We strongly recommend that you read Steve’s book. It really is incredibly short and it will ensure that you get a strong grounding in usability without spending half your life studying the research that surrounds the area. As a way of introduction (or refreshment if you have already read the book), here are some key lessons in the book that are worth highlighting:

  10. Every time I sign into any social media platform, someone has an opinion on the future of voice. It’s either the future we all deserve from the technology at our fingertips or it’s another passing fad that will come and go. The overwhelming conversation is the issue with the user experience around voice. How it’s too public, too confusing, too nuanced, a general feeling that people will not take to it. It’s too futuristic and intimidating for the average person to interact with regularly. All of those points might very well be true, but I take issue with the reason behind why we accept that.

Throughout the digital evolution, we have pointed to a myriad of technologies that would “never be adopted” for whatever reasoning at the time. The fact is that at every turn, there have been challenges with the UX because humans are, by condition, bad at change. The thing that overcomes those challenges is function, which is the real issue right now in voice.
