Ige was informed of the mistake within 2 minutes. But it would take 38 minutes for a public correction. The alert system, it turned out, had no cancellation option. How, Ige might have wondered like Cold War satire Dr. Strangelove’s hapless US President Merkin Muffley facing the prospect of nuclear armageddon, was it possible for the thing to be impossible to untrigger?
