  1. It’s a well-known fact that in order to win more business and grow your company financially, it’s crucial to design applications with a user-first mindset. This mindset will also drive improved adaptability and productivity. With the advent of BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) and the converging effects it is having on two previously separate worlds (users and business), users want to access official and personal emails, documents, and other assets on the go.

  2. Your smartphone is about to get smarter, thanks to artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). And that has huge implications for enterprise support for mobility.

Enterprise mobility has long promised to allow workers to be productive wherever they are, to speed up business processes and to improve accuracy and efficiency by putting the most up-to-date data in the hands of workers in the field, says Kevin Burden, vice president of mobility research and data strategy at 451 Research. The addition of AI will help deliver on those promises, he says.

  3. There is no doubting that the CRM industry is a thriving one. According to Gartner, CRM is now considered the largest of all software markets – with a worldwide revenue of nearly $39.5 billion. Research director at Gartner even stated that CRM will ‘be the fastest growing software market with a growth rate of 16%’ in 2018. So why is this software so in vogue? CRM software now lies at heart of most marketing and sales operations. These businesses are trying to avoid silos and make information available to their employees wherever they are. Plus it’s proven to be an efficient way of obtaining the much sought-after ‘360 degree view of the customer’.

  4. 'Consumerisation has meant that user expectations for enterprise technologies have been set by everything from smart homes and entertainment devices to games and mobile apps. 5. Most companies building software tout the great user experiences (UX) they provide, but enterprise users seldom agree. After all, everyday apps are intuitive but enterprise applications still tend to require conformance. With Infragistics Indigo.Design, enterprise designers and developers can cooperatively deliver the kinds of UX outcomes their customers expect.

Part of the problem is the traditional disconnect between designers and developers. Designers propose ideas that developers can’t readily encode, which creates friction. Designers are frustrated that developers can’t easily implement the desired visions. Conversely, developers wish designers understood technology constraints.

  6. In Part 1 in this two-part series, Chris Braunsdorf and I explained that, in an environment where UX maturity is low, onboarding User Experience with an enterprise product team poses unique challenges. However, you can overcome these challenges by:
    +conducting early user research
+requesting the feedback of individual team members
+receiving teammates’ input openly and patiently
+redirecting teammates’ feedback to align with your user-centered approach
+recruiting team members as active participants in your UX research and design activities.

However, once you’ve onboarded User Experience in your organization, you must demonstrate certain skills to ensure that it becomes an essential component for your enterprise product teams going forward. These skills extend beyond your UX design capabilities.

  7. Are you continually frustrated trying to unsuccessfully convince executive leadership that your enterprise needs AI? Do you feel defeated because you hear everywhere in the news that AI is one of the most impactful technological breakthroughs of the modern era but can’t get anyone else to pay attention?

The answer to this is to not give up on AI. Revise your approach to be more effective at connecting the dots for your business stakeholders. To optimize your AI pitch, focus on two specific areas -- business value and scalability -- and use the right terminology.

  8. For some enterprises, digital transformation is just about lowering costs. Although reducing expenses is one potential benefit of digital transformation, forward-thinking companies understand that digital transformation is also about improving the experience for external and internal users.

Bose Corporation, one of the world’s largest audio equipment providers, developed a digital transformation strategy that focused on enhancing the employee experience. Consequently, the technological changes have made Bose a better place to work.
